Hopscotch Phonics
This is an oldie but a goodie! Hopscotch has been around forever and I don't know a child that doesn't love to play it. This is a great way to be outside and have fun learning some phonics skills! All you need is some sidewalk chalk or a rock if you don't have any chalk! Now you just need a couple of kids for the fun to begin!
1. Find a flat section of sidewalk or driveway.
2. Draw 12 large square boxes like the picture above.
3. Place the letters, S, H, then SH. C, H, then CH. T, H, then TH.
4. Each child starts by hopping on one foot at a time and say the letter that they land on. When they come to the two boxes they have a foot in each box and say the sound those two letters make. For instance, when they land on SH they would say "Sh". Once the children get the hang of it you can also have the say a word that uses the combined letters. For example, when they land on "Th", they could then say "The".
5. You could also switch this game up by putting vowels in the boxes and have them use that vowel in a word.
HAPPY HOPPING!!!!
