Learning Letters with Playdough
This is an easy activity for beginners that can be adapted as children get older and need more of a challenge. The first thing you need to do is make your playdough. This is an inexpensive way to make it and most of the ingredients you will already have in your kitchen cupboard. You can access the recipe at the button on the bottom of this page.
Once you have made your playdough, you can really make this activity anything that you want. For beginners I would have students start with the letter "a" then continue through the alphabet. Have them make the letter, say it aloud then tell you what sound that letter makes. For older children I would have them tell you a word that consists of that letter then use it in a sentence. You can also use the playdough for spelling practice by having the child spell words using the playdough. Children love playdough so I think you can make this an awesome family activity that grows with your children.
